Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sourdough starter, milk, oil, egg, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow muffins to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle a little cinnamon sugar on top before baking or serve warm with a pat of butter.
