Mulled Apple Cider

Mulled Apple Cider

Warm and fragrant mulled apple cider infused with rich spices, perfect for cozy autumn and winter gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 quart (4 cups) fresh apple cider
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 3 whole allspice berries
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 1 orange, sliced thinly
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/4 cup dark rum or apple brandy

Instructions

  1. Pour the apple cider into a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, star anise, orange slices, and brown sugar to the cider.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low and cover.
  4. Let the cider mull for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and if desired, add rum or apple brandy for a spiked version.
  6. Strain the cider through a fine mesh sieve to remove the spices and orange slices.
  7. Serve hot in mugs, garnished with a cinnamon stick or fresh orange slice.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and consider adding a splash of fresh lemon juice for brightness. Leftover cider keeps for 3 days refrigerated.
