Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy

This Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy offers rich, savory flavor and a smooth texture, perfect for enhancing your holiday meals with ease and convenience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups turkey or chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon drippings from roasted turkey

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2–3 minutes until the mixture is golden and bubbly, forming a roux.
  3. Slowly whisk in the turkey or chicken broth, ensuring no lumps form.
  4. Add poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper; continue whisking until the gravy thickens, about 5–7 minutes.
  5. If desired, stir in turkey drippings for extra flavor.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  7. Transfer the gravy to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
  8. To reheat, warm gently over low heat, whisking occasionally until heated through and smooth before serving.

Notes

For a richer gravy, whisk in a splash of cream or a bit of white wine during reheating. Serve warm over turkey, mashed potatoes, or stuffing.
