Irish Potato Farls

Irish Potato Farls are traditional skillet-cooked potato breads with a soft interior and crisp edges, perfect as a comforting side or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (leftover or freshly made)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, and salt to form a soft dough.
  2. Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each into a round, flat cake about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Place each round onto a clean, floured surface and cut into four equal triangular farls (like slicing a pizza).
  4. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Add the farls to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Remove from the skillet and serve warm.

Notes

For an authentic taste, enjoy your farls with Irish butter and a cup of tea or alongside a full Irish breakfast.
