Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice, warm
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Extra melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm pineapple juice and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add melted butter, warm milk, egg, and the activated yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Shape each piece into a ball and place them close together in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  8. Cover and let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Remove from oven and brush warm rolls with melted butter for a shiny, flavorful finish.
  12. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of grated orange zest to the dough or serve the rolls warm with honey butter.
