Classic Homemade Meatloaf with Brown Sugar Glaze

This Classic Homemade Meatloaf features a juicy blend of ground beef and aromatic herbs, topped with a sweet and tangy brown sugar glaze for a comforting, crowd-pleasing meal.

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, and parsley. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared pan and shape into a loaf.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar to make the glaze.
  5. Brush half of the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven, brush with remaining glaze, and return to oven for an additional 15 minutes or until meatloaf is cooked through and the glaze is caramelized.
  8. Let meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding finely chopped bell peppers or a splash of hot sauce to the meat mixture. Serve with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables for a classic comfort meal.
