Cabbage Roll Casserole

Cabbage Roll Casserole is a comforting baked dish that combines savory ground beef, tender cabbage, and a rich tomato sauce for a delicious, easy twist on traditional stuffed cabbage rolls.

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the rice according to package instructions and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, sauté diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat until softened.
  4. Add ground beef, salt, pepper, and paprika; cook until beef is browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in cooked rice, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and dried parsley; simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage.
  7. Pour the beef and tomato mixture evenly over the cabbage layer.
  8. Top with the remaining chopped cabbage.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes until cabbage is tender.
  10. Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top (if using), and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce or serve with a dollop of sour cream.
