Warm and comforting, these spiced pear muffins are the perfect treat for a cozy morning or afternoon snack. The tender pears and fragrant spices create a delightful flavor combination that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 medium pears, peeled, cored, and diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or grease well.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the buttermilk and diced pears.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the muffins cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try browning the butter before adding it to the sugar. A sprinkle of turbinado sugar on top before baking adds a nice crunch.
