Homemade Spiced Pumpkin Butter

Jar of Homemade Spiced Pumpkin Butter

This Homemade Spiced Pumpkin Butter is a delicious and easy-to-make spread perfect for toast, muffins, or even as a flavorful addition to oatmeal. With warming spices and real pumpkin, it’s a fall favorite you’ll want to make every year.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups pumpkin puree (canned or fresh)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider or apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the pumpkin puree, granulated sugar, brown sugar, apple cider (or juice), lemon juice, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent sticking.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 hours, or until the pumpkin butter has thickened to your desired consistency. The longer it simmers, the thicker it will become.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  5. Transfer the pumpkin butter to sterilized jars.
  6. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or process in a boiling water bath for longer storage.

Notes

Try adding a splash of vanilla extract after removing the pumpkin butter from the heat for an extra layer of flavor. This pumpkin butter is also delicious swirled into yogurt or used as a filling for pastries.
