  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  4. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until just combined, then beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Frost with your favorite frosting.

For best results, use room temperature ingredients. You can also add sprinkles to the batter for a funfetti cake.
