Crispy Chicken Waffles

Enjoy the perfect combination of golden, crispy fried chicken paired with fluffy, buttery waffles for a delicious twist on a classic comfort dish.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the waffles.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix with milk and melted butter.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just blended. Preheat waffle iron and cook waffles until golden and crisp. Keep warm.
  4. Place chicken thighs in a bowl and pour buttermilk over them. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. In a shallow dish, mix 1 cup flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Remove chicken from buttermilk, dredge in seasoned flour, pressing to coat well.
  8. Fry chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve crispy fried chicken on top of warm waffles. Drizzle with maple syrup and enjoy.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne powder to the waffle batter or serve with hot honey for a spicy-sweet balance.
