Chicken Tikka Masala Plating

Chicken Tikka Masala is a creamy and flavorful Indian dish featuring marinated and grilled chicken simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce. This classic recipe is perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner or a special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine chicken, yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, turmeric powder, cumin powder, chili powder, and salt. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread marinated chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through. Alternatively, grill the chicken.
  3. While chicken is baking, heat oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add bell pepper and cook for another 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the baked chicken to the sauce and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Stir in heavy cream and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.

Notes

For a spicier dish, add more chili powder or a pinch of cayenne pepper. Serve with basmati rice and naan bread for a complete meal.
